Pulling fibre optic cable through an unlubricated conduit over long distances is slow, expensive, and hard on the cable jacket. The cable stretches under friction, kinks at bends, and over a 2-kilometre pull, what should take an afternoon becomes a two-day job with damage at the end of it.
PLB duct solves this with a permanently lubricated inner liner — not applied at installation, but moulded into the duct surface during manufacturing. The cable slides, blows, or gets pulled through with a fraction of the resistance. Installation speed goes up two to three times. That is not a marginal gain on a large network rollout.
The coil format matters. PLB duct comes in 200-metre coils or longer. A 2-kilometre cable run may need two joints, not twenty. Every joint in an underground conduit is a potential ingress point for water and a potential failure point for the cable jacket. Fewer joints means a more reliable network, full stop.
The HDPE outer jacket resists soil chemicals, moisture, and mechanical stress from ground movement. In the varied terrain that India's network buildouts cross — urban rock, rural clay, waterlogged floodplain — that resistance is not optional. Conventional conduit degrades in the same conditions within a decade.
The infrastructure going into the ground now will carry network traffic for 20 to 30 years. Specifying PLB duct correctly at this stage is not a cost line to trim. It is the decision that determines whether the network holds up or needs expensive remediation in year eight.
